In the article are examined the cases of the explosions of vacuum arched ovens at the Verkhnesaldinskiy metalworking plant (VSMOZ) in the process of creating the largest in the world melting and casting complex on the production of titanium ingots - basis of large-scale production of titanium semifinished products for the aerospace branch and the shipbuilding of the USSR (beginning 1960–1970).

Theses development of manufacturing ingots from powder of hafnium and research of their quality

Industrial schemes of melting hafnium ingots weighing up to 1000 kg by double remelting from electrolytic powder without carrying out operation of agglomeration pressed briquettes are developed and scientifically proved. The main operations of process are investigated: pressing, agglomeration, electrode formation, melting. We obtained formula for calculation of the minimum cross section area weld joint made of briquettes from electrolytic powder.
The analysis of quality of ingots showed that use of results of researches in the scheme of production of ingots from electrolytic powder of hafnium allows to receive ingots conforming to established requirements for the subsequent production of products from them.

Development and production ligature for complexly titanium alloys with high content of refractory elements

Developing of new high-temperature superalloys with unique combination of physical and mechanical properties is not possible without creating of multi-alloying systems. This is precisely why is so currently important to solve a problem of adding the higher-melting-point elements such as W, Mo, Nb in liquid-alloy.
In this paper is presented the method of W introduction in the titanium alloy with addition alloy, which composition calculation was made by studying of the binary and ternary phase equilibrium diagrams of Ti, Al, W. The tailored composition was gotten with followed production of addition alloy by VAR.

Shape recovery work of titanium nickelide-based alloys in conditions of permanent counteraction

We considered the influence of permanent counteraction on the process of shape recovery and specific work of titanium-nickelide based alloy. It was shown that the maximal work was observed at the preliminary deformation of material up to a critical value and at the counteraction corresponding to critical strains. The highest specific work of shape recovery occurs in titanium nickelide-based alloy with the structure being polygonized at the annealing temperature of 450°С.

Macrolocalization of plastic deformation. local stresses and fracture of ultrafine grain titanium

Processes of plastic deformation of the ultrafine grain titanium are considered. By means of methods of the speckle-photography and X-ray diffractometry distributions of local deformations and elastic distortions by working part of samples are studied. It is shown that the atomic force microscopy method can be effectively used for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of ultrafine-grain material structures.

Mathematic modeling of multi-directional forging of two-phases titanium alloy VT6

The microstructure and mechanical properties of titanium alloy VT6 were studied after deformation by isothermal forging process. The kinetics of globularization of lamellar microstructure part was revealed in the deformed workpieces at 700°C. The mathematic model of VT6 alloy forging were development by using Deform 3D software.

Effect of microstructure of titanium alloy vt6 on mechanical properties of joints prodused by diffusion bonding

The studies of diffusion bonded samples of VT6 (Ti-6Al-4V) and Nitinol alloys were carried out considering the titanium alloy in two states: ultra-fine grained and bi-modal microstructures, the last one consisted of small and large a-phase grains. Depending on microstructure and chemical composition of the alloys, the diffusion bonding had been made at temperatures from 600°C to 850°C. The microstructures of joints studied by scanning electron microscope using detector of backscattering electron diffraction. The shear strengths of joints were measured. It was concluded that the ultra-fine grained Ti-6Al-4V alloy joints bonded at 750°C had 86% of base shear strength of the alloy. The bi-modal Ti-6Al-4V alloy joints bonded at 800°С had 96% of base shear strength of the alloy.

The development of the stamping technology on the multiplunger press of the ship fittings made of titanium alloy PТ-3М

The high-tech stamping technology on the multiplunger press for manufacturing of the ship fittings made of titanium alloy PT-3M has been developed using the mathematical modeling approach. The problems of the sticking of hot titanium on the surface of the tool have been overcome by means of temperatures control and proper surface shielding of the plungers.
